Brothers Give Back to VVA Denver Chapter 1071

We are honored to announce the June Brothers Gives Back recipient as Vietnam Veterans of America – Denver Chapter 1071. This nomination was brought to our attention by one of our dispatchers, Bee. She had been working with Steve, one of our regular clients, when he told her about something his VVA Chapter had done for fallen soldiers. Steve had told Bee about a β€œstorage room” of 300 unclaimed individuals at a local mortuary. His VVA Chapter worked with that mortuary to verify and recover 26 veterans and held two separate β€œHonors Burials” for 13 veterans at a time (some were from as far back as 1954.) at Ft. Logan Cemetery here in Denver this past April. This obviously tugged on Bee’s heartstrings, and she immediately told Steve about our Brothers Gives Back program. She informed him that he should apply using the form on our website. Steve then explained that he does not use the internet and does not have an email. Hearing this, Bee was not about to let this go and set a plan into action. Brothers Gives Back was set-up so anyone can submit a nomination for any cause, charitable organization, and/or non-profit organization on our website. Knowing this, Bee took it upon herself to submit the nomination in Steve’s name. After review, we knew the VVA was a good fit for Brothers Gives Back.

The VVA was founded with the moto β€œNever again shall one generation of veterans abandon another.” They want to make sure that all veterans, no matter when they served, get treated with the dignity and respect that all veterans deserve.Β  They help aid veterans that are disabled or need assistance, as well as provide a resource for their families. In the last year VVA 1071 has also moved 16 homeless veterans into long term housing, providing furniture, food, and everyday housewares. They provided vehicle repairs for veterans to help them travel to and from work each day. In 2023 they provided $17,000 in scholarships for 5 students to attend various colleges and universities and so far, they have awarded 3 $5,000 scholarships in 2024. They are currently working to establish a new VVA Chapter in Southern Colorado. Among many other volunteering and donation activities, they also donate funds to the local Honor Guard to help support the β€œHonor Burials” with taps and 21-gun salutes.

Brothers make it a point to try to be good stewards in our community. We have developed a variety of avenues to give back. Not only does Brothers have Brothers Gives Back but we have a program called Booties for a Cause. Each quarter we have a set cause that we donate a portion of our proceeds to, and we have our technicians wear shoe covers (AKA Booties) in a color that represents that cause. In honor of Military appreciation month and Memorial Day, we felt it fitting that Quarter two be our focus on our Military to say thank you for everything they have done for us. Since the military is our focus, we have our technicians were yellow booties to help show support.

The Vietnam Veterans of America – Denver Chapter 1071 will be the 3rd of 4 different Military based non-profits that Brothers will be donating to this quarter.

We want every veteran and their families to know that we appreciate them and their sacrifice to give us everything we have.
